Event 3 Northbridge Challenge - (14/3/10)
by Rozanne Green
I was thrilled to hear of a Harbour Series, as the Ocean Series was too big of a challenge for me last year.
I have been lucky to have race the “no 13” on my ski for the series. Event 1 at Balmoral and event 2 at Cronulla were quite challenging as the strong winds and choppy seas were more than I had expected for "Harbour" races but I managed to complete both courses comfortably.
Event 3 at Northbridge brought us beautiful weather and kind winds and swell. It is a pity there have not been more women doing these races.
With calm waters I was able put more power into my stroke with my good old reliable "Zipper" rather than concentrate on staying upright. I had "Epic" skis all around me and sometimes I felt that trying to hang onto peoples wash I was powered by “Epic”. At the start of the race young Rachelle, all the way from Canberra, fell in and gave me a chance to wash ride behind her beautiful strong slower pace stroke, compared to the fast men sometimes only using their brute strength. I knew I would not be able to stay behind her the whole way but it felt good to stick behind her for a while, thanks Rachelle. The rest of the way I only had men around me. I did try to catch some runners on the way home but it was not worth it as I went off course.

I have been 1st woman home for over 40’s for all 3 races as there are not many women over 40 competing. I was 2nd overall woman home for event 2 and 3 and 3rd woman home for event 1.
A lot of people have been very happy with their lucky draw prizes; I got an XXXL T-shirt in race 1, great PJ's. Looking forward to race no 4.
Come on ladies, join us; it is one place where the lines for the ladies toilets are always short!!!
Regards, Rozanne
